The purpose of WEE Care Child Development Center is to provide each child in the center with care, education, and development through activity teaching.  Our teachers use the WEE Learn curriculum published by LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.  The units of study are written by Christian men and women who are experts in the field of Early Childhood Education.  Our teachers plan lessons that are age appropriate, developmentaly appropriate, and with specific goals in mind.

Infant Curriculum (birth—12 months)

Activities for infants and toddlers will be provided in accordance with each child's developmental level and the Alabama Department of Human Resources (ALDHR) Minimum Standards for Daytime Centers.  Each child will receive frequent personal contact and attention from the staff such as cuddleing and rocking, being sung to and being taken on walks.  Each infant will be allowed to continue his/her own schedule of sleeping and eating.  Children will be provided regular opportunities for verbal interaction, freedom of movement outside their cribs, and a "hands on" exploration of their world.  In accordance with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants will be placed on their stomach for some of the time they are awake.  "Tummy Time" helps muscle development and reduces the tendency of the infant's head to flatten.  In compliance with ALDHR, infants and toddlers will spend time outdoors daily, weather permitting.  We want to assure your child is properly cared for while in our center.  Parents of infants are responsible for providing the following items:  diaper bag, diapers and wipes for the week, clean bottles with caps and nipples for each day, breast milk or formula (formula can be in canisters, pre-measured in bottle, or pre-made and ready for refrigeration), and 2 or 3 complete changes of clothing each day that are seasonally appropriate.

 Toddler Curriculum  (13-24 months)

Our toddler teachers realize that this stage of development is emotionally and physically taxing on children as they go from babyhood to being a preschool child.  Teachers will help children learn to be kind and loving toward one another.  Even though most toddlers are non-verbal, they do understand conversations.  Therefore, language development is taking place each day by talking with the children, encouraging them to use their words to express themselves, and through reading books.  Teachers transition children from the baby class into a more structured environment by providing self-directed play, planned activities and outside play times which are incorporated into each day's routine.

During the year, as toddlers develop fine motor skills, they begin sitting at the table to eat and do activities.  Older toddlers are transitioned from a training cup to a regular cup for drinking.  Large motor development is encouraged by providing age appropriate climbing equipment and riding toys on the playground.  Toddlers nap on rest cots with their napmats instead of in cribs.  A variety of toys and multiples of the same toys are provided to keep busy toddlers interested and engaged in activities.  Older toddlers are encouraged in their self-help skills such as putting on their shoes, jackets, etc.  When a parent feels their child is exhibiting signs of potty training readiness, teachers work with the child at WEE Care to help them develop this skill and to provide consistency with what parents are doing in the home.

 Preschool Curriculum (24 months—Pre-K Fours)

Each preschooler has several basic needs that we strive to meet.  As we provide an environment which offers protection from hazards and security through a consistent schedule, preschoolers and teachers build a relationship of trust based on unconditional love and acceptance, even when behavior is unacceptable.  Teachers in the Two, Three, and Four Year Old classes foster independence and freedom so a child can learn to do for himself.  Classrooms are set-up in learning centers that offer different learning experiences and allow children to choose what they want to do.  Self-help skills that are developmentally appropriate are taught in each age group.  For instance, two year olds lean to use the bathroom without help, three year olds learn to brush their teeth, and four year olds learn to clean up their area after snack and lunch.  Guidance and encouragement are given to children as they explore and learn from the world around them.  Teachers seek to know the needs of each individual child and work at meeting those needs.  Throughout the day, teachers us situations that arise to help children learn self control.  As the children are learning all of these valuable life skills, foundations for faith are being laid by teachers who love God and respect Biblical truths.

Our goal for preschool children is to help them learn skills they will use throughout their life as well as become ready to enter Kindergarten.  Listening, following directions, obeying parents and teachers, and getting along with others are important life skills that each child needs.  Biblical and moral foundations are laid as they hear Bible stories and learn Bible verses and songs.  Academically, we strive for preschoolers to learn the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, and to begin to write their name.  Children are allowed and encouraged to achieve beyond this level, as teachers allow the children to set the pace of learning and to reach their own potential.

 School Age Curriculum (Kindergarten—6th Grade)

In keeping with the WEE Care Philosophy, it is our goal to help school-age children to continue to develop mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually.  Therefore, it is our desire to provide an environment where children can relax and have some free time after school but within the parameters set by a group setting which services different age groups.
